So, I do have a few laser measurement devices in my toolbox, but all of them are unidirectional and the device itself is the origin for each measurement. The Magpie does all that too, but the feature making the headline is the dual laser. Sounds cool, so let’s try it.And focusing on the dual laser mode, reality brought me down very quickly trying to measure easy stuff like the inside of a window frame. Sure, it measures both sides, but having both aligned at the same time when you physically can only look at one or the other … that is a test of my patience I wasn’t prepared for. Also, as one might expect, having two lasers accumulate accuracy, this mode is not as precise as any of my other laser distance measurements. The companion app is a bit clunky, but does help to record layouts. What’s nice is that it allows to create a sketch and assign measurements. That sure helps to remember which number goes where. It does not resize base on the dimensions you enter, so it may look funny to have larger numbers assigned to short ends.So overall, not a bad idea, but it proved pointless in my normal usage. Sure there are special applications where you can’t physically get to either end of the measurement, but not in my daily tasks. Also, I find the housing a bit large and overall not very attractive.

I loved the concept of this measurer however it was not accurate when I compared the outputs to a regular tape measure. The dual laser would have been very helpful and it was well designed and easy to use. I ordered this to measure areas in a new home for appliances/window treatments/furniture etc. However after trying for a few days I ended up returning this product for another option.

A very compact design that packs everything I need to use it effectively and confidently. The bubble levels ensures I have the angles I’m want correctly dialed in. The instructions were informative and easy to read and understand. I quickly and easily changed it from metric to what we use here, feet and inches. The precise long distance measurements I can get insure I don’t make a numbers mistake like when I am using a manual measuring tape. Since twenty five feet is the limit on my manual tapes I sometimes make math mistakes, not too often but I’m only human and do make a error now and again. It’s now part of my maintenance kit for jobs that need long distance readings but I’m probably going to start using it for lesser jobs as well. Four Stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!

What a great product. Don’t have to kneel to take measurements, it reads measurements on both side at the same time. It’s also great at finding the centerpoint of a wall or floor. Tested it against the time consuming process of using a tape measure and its been dead on balls accurate.

Is the only rangefinder I’ve found that can measure in both directions. So you can also measure the height without having to kneel on the floor. This also increases the measurement accuracy. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth every penny. As other people have mentioned, backlighting would be desirable. But that’s the only thing I would still miss. Once you have worked with it, you will never use your old laser knife with only one direction again :-)
